Citizens Advice Harrow is seeking up to three new trustees to join our Board and help guide the strategic direction of our charity. We provide free, confidential and independent advice to thousands of residents each year on issues including debt, benefits, housing, employment and family matters.

As a trustee, you will work with fellow board members and the leadership team to ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable, well governed and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve. The role is voluntary, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

We are particularly interested in people with experience in:

  • Finance, accountancy or audit
  • Human resources and people management
  • Digital, IT or cyber security
  • Fundraising and income generation
  • Legal or governance expertise
  • Local government, health or community services
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Lived experience of the issues facing Harrow residents

What will you do?

  • Contribute to the charity’s strategic direction
  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings
  • Help ensure good governance and financial oversight
  • Support the Chief Executive and leadership team through constructive challenge and advice
  • Act as an ambassador for Citizens Advice Harrow within your networks
  • Ensure the charity continues to meet the needs of local people

What are we looking for?

You do not need previous trustee experience. We are looking for people who:

  • Have good judgement and integrity
  • Can think strategically and see the bigger picture
  • Are committed to the values of Citizens Advice Harrow
  • Are willing to contribute their skills and experience
  • Can work collaboratively with others
  • Are passionate about improving the lives of local people

Time commitment

  • Approximately 4 to 6 board meetings per year (usually held in the afternoon)
  • Occasional participation in working groups or trustee development activities
  • Around 4 to 8 hours per month on average
